Thursday's Three on Poetry

Today, Thursday's Three brings you a trio of audio recordings of poetry.

✭ These recordings from 2013 can be found on The Southern Review's SoundCloud page. One of the 10 tracks features poet Alice Friman reading "Adrienne Rich". Friman's most recent collection is The View from Saturn (LSU Press, September 2014).

✭ This recording from The Kenyon Review features a reading of "The Bloom, the Furnace, the Stars: An Elegy for Jake Adam York" by Adam Vines and William Wright.

Poetry collections of the late Jake Adam York (1972-2012) include the posthumously published Abide (Crab Orchard Series in Poetry, 2014) and Persons Unknown (Southern Illinois University Press, 2010), A Murmuration of Starlings (Southern Illinois University Press, 2008), and Ballads (Elixer Press, 2005). Read York's obituary.

Smithsonian Folkways issued in 1995 the recording "The Story of the Blues", read by Langston Hughes (1902-1967). Listen to a sample. Browse a list of other Smithsonian Folkways albums for Hughes.
